The First 14 Days: Why Timing Matters for Newborn Photography
Wondering when to schedule your newborn session? This question often comes with a lot of uncertainty and underlying concerns, especially for first-time parents.
But not to worry, the first 5–14 days after birth is often the sweet spot, and here’s why:
1. Sleepy Poses
During the first two weeks, babies sleep deeply and curl naturally, allowing us to gently pose them for those dreamy, womb-like images.
2. Baby Acne & Fussiness Haven't Set In
Around week three, many babies develop skin blemishes and become more alert and sensitive. Early sessions before this time avoid these obstacles.
3. Flexibility with Feeding & Soothing
Newborns are more likely to settle easily when sessions are scheduled early. In the first two weeks after birth, babies are generally sleepier and more naturally content, which makes feeding and soothing much easier during a photography session.
4. Preserving the Newborn Look
Babies change so quickly throughout the first couple weeks. Capturing those first few days after birth preserves a stage that disappears almost overnight.
5. A Calmer, Gentler Experience for Everyone
Parents are still riding the wave of newborn bliss (and maybe a little sleep deprivation), but early sessions provide a quiet, intentional space to bond. With fewer appointments and visitors in the early days, there’s more emotional room to slow down and simply enjoy the process. The session becomes less about performance and more about connection.
Final Thoughts:
If your baby is older than 14 days, don’t worry. Beautiful images are still possible. But if you’re planning ahead, earlier is better.
